Professional experience

James Kurkoske brings a wealth of law enforcement expertise to the table, having retired as a Lieutenant from the Rialto Police Department after an impressive 27-year career. His journey within the department spanned a diverse range of assignments, from patrol to administration, with notable contributions as a sergeant overseeing internal affairs investigations and a dedicated stint in specialized roles such as gang detection, major crimes, and narcotics task force supervision. A recipient of the California Narcotic Officers Association Case of the Year award, Mr. Kurkoske's leadership extended to the traffic division, where he managed major accident investigations and played a pivotal role on the Major Accident Investigation Team. His commitment to education is evident through his academic achievements, including a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal State Long Beach and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from California Coast University. Furthermore, he has shared his knowledge as an adjunct instructor for Criminal Justice classes and as a presenter at professional conferences on topics such as Active Shooter/Workplace Violence and Tactical Commander.

Beyond his professional achievements, James Kurkoske is actively engaged in community service and governance. Appointed by the Mayor and City Council of Riverside, he serves as a commissioner on the Community Police Review Commission (CPRC), overseeing police complaints and investigations related to officer-involved deaths of citizens. His dedication extends to the Magnolia Center Little League, where he serves on the board of directors, emphasizing his commitment to youth development and community engagement. Additionally, as an active member of the Grove Community Church, Mr. Kurkoske blends his professional expertise with a genuine commitment to fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
