Professional experience
Cory Rubright honorably retired as a Commander from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office after a dedicated career spanning over 35 years. In his roles as a manager, Mr. Rubright served as the Detention Services Administrative Captain, overseeing the Detention Services Legal Unit, and as the Facility Manager of the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.
Mr. Rubright also served as the Patrol Operations Captain for the agency’s largest patrol station and worked as the Assistant Chief of Police for a Sheriff’s contract city.
As a member of the command staff, Mr. Rubright served as the Professional Standards Commander, where he was responsible for overseeing the complex administrative investigations conducted by the internal affairs unit, inspections and audits, the agency’s training center, and working closely with outside attorneys on issues related to litigation.
As a sergeant, Mr. Rubright conducted misconduct investigations during a three-year assignment in Professional Standards. He has extensive investigative experience, working on gang investigations, property crime investigations, forgery fraud cases, and major crimes and sex crimes cases. Nearly half of Mr. Rubright’s career was spent in or managing investigative assignments.
Mr. Rubright has years of experience as a trainer for the Sheriff’s Office, where he worked in the in-service training unit and was responsible for implementing both the TASER and Body Worn Cameras. He has an extensive background in use of force and helped form the Sheriff’s Force Training and Analysis Committee, serving as a member for several years.
Mr. Rubright holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice management and is proud to have served his community for more than thirty years.
