Mr. Hauptmann has experience in all major units of the police departments from patrol officer to chief of police. He personally conducted and supervised numerous workplace investigations. Agencies worked: Cypress, Glendale and Garden Grove Police Departments.
He became the Police Chief of the Maywood-Cudahy Police Department for the specific purpose to rebuild a dysfunctional police department. The agency had been under investigation by local, state and federal agencies. As a result of his efforts, the Attorney General stated that the Maywood-Cudahy Police Department would become a model “best practices” agency for its size.
Mr. Hauptmann has taught the subject of workplace investigations for California State University, Long Beach for 17 years. He has testified as an expert in workplace investigations and retained as an expert witness in personnel investigations. Mr. Hauptmann served on the Board of Directors for the Southern California Internal Affairs Investigator’s Association for 10 years.
He currently serves as the Executive Director of the City of Riverside, Community Police Review Commission, where he manages a nine-member panel of police commissioners and reviews all citizen complaint investigations. He reviews investigations for clarity, thoroughness, accuracy and fairness; and that Departmental policy and procedures for these cases are followed prior to presentation to the Commission.
