RELATED GOVERNMENT EXPERIENCE (31 YEARS):
Frank Vanecek has a total of 26 years of experience investigating Criminal, Internal/Administrative, Use of Force and Workplace cases. Mr. Vanecek began his career with the Port Hueneme Police Department in Ventura County, California, including two years as a Detective. He then accepted an Investigator position with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, working Narcotics, Asset Forfeiture and Money-Laundering cases with a number of local state and federal agencies. He was promoted to a Supervisory position (Criminal Investigator III), and managed the Special Investigations Unit which was primarily responsible for Internal/Administrative Investigations.
Mr. Vanecek worked as sworn investigator for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and held multiple investigatory, supervisory and management positions from 1994 until 2013, when he retired as Agent-in-Charge. His assignments included working in the Organized Crime/Gaming Unit, the Denver Fugitive Task Force, the Metro Gang Task Force, the Denver Major Crimes Division, the Durango Field Office, the Identification and InstaCheck Units, and as the Senior Firearms Instructor for the Department. He was collaterally assigned to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force for approximately four years. He served on the CALEA policy review committee, assisting the CBI in successfully becoming accredited. He also performed a detailed and comprehensive Staff Inspection, reviewing policies, procedures and work processes related to the handling, processing and storage of evidence for a large state criminal laboratory, generating 34 recommendations which were all ultimately adopted.
Mr. Vanecek conducted Use of Force Investigations for more than fifteen city, county, state and federal agencies as a member of the 18th Judicial Critical Incident Team (CIT) in the Denver metro area for approximately two years, and as the founder and leader of the 6th and 22nd Judicial CIT (southwest Colorado) for approximately eight years.
In 2013 Mr. Vanecek began working for the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s as a Program Manager II, managing administrative functions including the Records Division, Correctional Technicians in the Custody Division, and the Cal-ID Program. Mr. Vanecek also obtained the training, skills and experience to serve as a Latent Fingerprint Examiner with the Sheriff’s Crime Lab. Mr. Vanecek retired from this position in December 2018 to work as a private investigator and consultant. He has since conducted numerous Police (POST) and Fire Department Background Investigations for several departments in Southern California and the Central Coast.
