James Kurkoske retired as a Lieutenant from the Rialto Police Department after 27 years of service, during which he worked in a wide variety of assignments from patrol to administration. As a sergeant, he investigated numerous internal and external personnel complaints and conducted several complex Internal Affairs investigations.
Mr. Kurkoske spent several years in the specialized investigations division as a gang detective, a major crimes detective and as a narcotics task force sergeant and investigator. While in this capacity, Mr. Kurkoske and his team were awarded the California Narcotic Officers Association Case of the Year for a large scale successful narcotics investigation. Mr. Kurkoske also worked in the department's traffic division, overseeing major accident investigations as well as managing and serving on the Major Accident Investigation Team.

Investigator Kurkoske has completed the California Commission of Peace Officers Standards and Training course on background investigations.
In 2016, Kurkoske was appointed by the Mayor and City Council of Riverside, to the Community Police Review Commission (CPRC), where he is a commissioner overseeing police complaints and investigations related to officer involved deaths of citizens. In addition, is a member of the board of directors for the Magnolia Center Little League and is an active member of the Grove Community Church.
