Professional experience
Mr. Miller honorably retired as a Commander from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department after twenty-nine years of service. He held various assignments across all the Sheriff’s divisions and spent nearly half his career in different investigative roles.
Mr. Miller supervised Patrol Operations, the Major Crimes Unit, and Internal Affairs while holding the rank of Captain. During his tenure in Internal Affairs, he was responsible for personnel management and reviewed all administrative investigations related to allegations of employee misconduct. Mr. Miller regularly collaborated with the Sheriff’s Human Resources and County Counsel on employee disciplinary matters, department liability, identifying policy issues, and recommending improvements. He completed training in Internal Affairs Investigations and Officer-Involved Shootings.
As a Sergeant, Mr. Miller supervised detectives investigating allegations of sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse while also assisting in homicide and officer-involved shooting investigations. Throughout his career, he has completed hundreds of hours of investigative training.
As Commander, Mr. Miller oversaw patrol operations for Moorpark and Thousand Oaks and the Special Services Division, which encompasses specially trained units designed for unique law enforcement situations.
Mr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Pepperdine University and a Master of Science degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University, Long Beach.
